Abraham Lincoln, Amadeo Peter Giannini, Andrew Carnegie, Andrew Jackson, and Andrew Perlman. These five made it into
This list is just one among a number of lists that continuously features and enshrines successful people who didn’t actually finish their degrees. It is amazing, isn’t it?
Unfortunately, not all who didn’t get their diploma lived to be successful. There are those who aimlessly wandered. Perhaps, this list should proffer a different perspective about degrees and life-choices, in general.
  1. Small or an almost nonexistent network. To succeed, or at the very least, get yourself started, you will always need a network. An ideal network usually features a mentor, a future-partner in crime, a willing investor, and a specialist (if you are not the specialist).
In college, you are given the opportunity to build a network. In high school, the chances of actually building one are slim to null.

  1. Thin skills set. Okay, this one is kind of arguable. If one had been busily honing on their skills as early as secondary education, and successfully combined this with relevant training, internships or qualifications, then that skills set isn’t going to be thin at all.

Regrettably, this is a rare case, as not everyone has access to training or qualifications. Obtaining internships is just as tough as it is increasingly becoming more and more competitive.
  1. What could’ve been? When you’re currently struggling to make ends meet, when you feel like you’re in a really deep rut, you can’t help but wonder how life would have been if you finished your degree.
And what could be actually worse is not suffering alone – but bringing down with you a whole family. Of course, these thoughts would have a very different tinge if you didn’t have a choice in the first place (i.e., you didn’t finish because you can’t afford the fees, or was unqualified for any grants, loans or scholarships).

Still, as most things are, you have the ultimate choice to steer the course of your life. Now, go and do something!
